Osamu Ichikawa's Dream

A disabled Street Fighter Osamu Ichikawa has been dreaming of playing in an arcade, with Umehara, and also attending Evo. So Umehara helped him by arranging the exhibition match. And the Evo organizer did a fundraising to send him to Evo. (There is also an article from Kotaku.)

Ichikawa started playing SF4 for one and a half year. He played on PS3 and Xbox 360.

For the exhibition match, Ichikawa played using a Hori controller with his chin. They played only one match. Umehara paid respect by not holding back, same with when he played against a disabled Chun-Li player during Evo 2011. (Ichikawa was there yesterday for rehearsal so they probably played several matches already.)

Ichikawa also participated the 64-man tournament which was his first tournament. He said he was nervous in the interview.

[Ougon Musou Kyoku Cross] Burst countermeasures by J

J, the top Ougon Musou Kyoku player, uploaded his new video tonight. This's a collection of "Burst" countermeasures.

In Ougon Musou Kyoku, Damage Touch (similar to "Burst" in other games) is used to escape a combo. But the Burst system is better in this game because it's unlimited, as long as you can pay the cost. This's the reason you hardly get a long combo out of the top OMK players who are good at SP gauge management.

You can learn to bait a Burst from this video, and also learn when to/not to Burst.

TOPANGA TV (2012.06.27) feat. Umehara

Last night, Daigo Umehara came to promote his Pre-Evo event on TOPANGA TV. And since there was some time left, they asked him to play one ranked match. He first said "only one match then," but ended up playing more.

Notes
- Mago lost his passport at CEO 2012 so he had to stay to fix the problem. He decided to live with Justin Wong until Evo 2012.
- Umehara announced that his second book talk on Nico is scheduled on June 30, 9 P.M., hours after the Pre-Evo event.
- Fuudo and Kazunoko are confirmed for the Pre-Evo event.
- Umehara usually doesn't talk while playing. This's the first time!
- After the first match, Umehara said "One more." in English.
- Umehara doesn't want to win by timeout.
- Umehara played without button checking, he missed some moves.
- The recorded stream is here (Umehara starting 1:40).

Umehara Pre-Evo event detailed

Taito Station now revealed the full details of Umehara's Pre-Evo Tournament event.

- SSF4AE Ver. 2012 singles
- Double elimination
- Max 64 players
- Entry fee 200 yen
- All participating players will get an ingame title
- There will be exhibition match between Umehara and Osamu Ichikawa, the disabled Street Fighter player who cannot use his arms (he was mentioned in the news last month)

They did not mention about streaming but it should be here.

Note that this is not the first time Umehara fight a disabled player. He already fought a disabled Chun-Li player at the money match room during Evo 2011.

2nd Umebook talk coming this month

It is announced that Daigo Umehara will have his own special talk show on Nico Nico about his book again at the end of this month (date TBA). Fans can now submit their own questions regarding the contents of his book at this link.

Umehara's book "Willpower to Keep Winning" sold over 28,000 copies and was ranked 3rd place in Amazon Japan's Best Sellers in overall book category. The first book talk was held in April.

1st GODSGARDEN IDOLM@STER summary

The first GODSGARDEN's IDOLM@STER 2 competition was held last night on Ura Kao TV. It was a fight between Naruo (the Evil Ryu player), Goshi (GG staff), and Ren (the BlazBlue player). They were given the access to all of DLCs. All they did was choosing the girls, costume, song, and stage. The winner was decided by voting from viewers.

The voting results
  1. Ren (62.3%)
  2. Goshi (23.4%)
  3. Naruo (14.3%)

Ren's team had better dress and coordination but he used 5 girls while Naruo and Goshi used only 3, so it was not actually fair. Naruo chose Do-Dai which is a very good song, but it does not go with the Winter theme. Goshi's coordination was almost totally off -- only dress and hat matched together.

The 2nd GG's IDOLM@STER competition should be very interesting, because KSK (who has a better sense of fashion) will participate.

Naruo's team
Character: Yayoi, Ami (center), Miki
Dress: School Days Blazer
Accessory Head: Star Earrings

Umehara Android app

Someone has made an Android application of the Denpa Jikkyo meme. You'll hear Gama no Abura shouting the phrase you touch.

Denpa Jikkyou is an Internet meme from a footage of Daigo Umehara's Guilty Gear match in 2003. Since then, it's become one of the most well-known memes on Nico Nico. The clip now has 1.46 million views.

[Ougon Musou Kyoku Cross] J's replay #5 (Guard Break Reset)

J, the top Ougon Musou Kyoku player, uploaded tonight a new video of his matches.

This time the subject of study is Guard Break, which you can delay it for a reset. (Reset is when you purposely drop a combo in order to begin a new combo for bigger damage or to avoid damage scaling.)
  1. Battler & Bernkastel vs. Lambdadelta & Bernkastel *He uses EX Blue Strike to cause Guard Break and reset the combo at the same time.
  2. Jessica & Ronove vs. Jessica & Eva
  3. Rosa & Bernkastel vs. Jessica & Bernkastel *He used Golden Dream for Guard Break
  4. Jessica & Lambdadelta vs. Kanon & Battler *Nice reset at the end

Umehara to have pre-Evo event at Taito Station Shinjuku MG

A tip from TOPANGA's Negi. Daigo Umehara will have a pre-Evo event at Taito Station Minami-guchi (south entance) branch on June 30 (Saturday) starting from 12:00.

They will accept participants on June 23. And probably due to the success of the last event (there were so many people, some could not enter), there will be participation fee, but only 200 yen. More details will follow.

The game center already had 2 events featuring Umehara. One in last year, and one in last month.

Gunslinger Stratos release date set to July 12

Square Enix announced today that Gunslinger Stratos will be released to the arcades on July 12. A list of the arcades that have the game will be released in the future.

Evolution 2012 is between July 6-8. That means Daigo Umehara will be able to come back to Japan to promote the game on time.

There was a big promotion of the game in April, expect a news about a big launch event soon.

Umehara to be in Capcom Summer Jam

Capcom revealed today that Daigo Umehara and Tokido will appear on the PS Vita's Street Fighter x Tekken stage in Capcom Summer Jam on July 1.

In February, Capcom made 4-part promotional video of SFxTK using Umehara and Tokido [1][2][3][4]. But this time it will be hard to create some hype for the game, because Umehara showed no interest in it as his main focus are SF4 and Gunslinger Stratos.

Namanushi Mahjong Fight Club 4 summary

On Saturday night (June 3), there was a live show/event on Nico Nico called "Namanushi Mahjong Fight Club 4." As the name suggests, well-known streamers (user stream) on Nico are invited to compete in the mahjong tournament. There were 4 teams; Talk Show Streamer, Female Streamer, Video Uploader, Fighting Game Streamer. Each team had 4 players. (Points will be carried over to the next players.)

FG Streamer consists of Sentosu (the Dictator player), Itabashi Zangief, Nuki, and Kokujin. The team originally had Soushihan KSK instead of ItaZan. But Nico denied his appearance for an unknown reason. (His name is also filtered in the chat.) However, ItaZan is good at mahjong.

A protest and a joke: Kokujin brought KSK's picture to the show and treated him like he just passed away. He later threw the picture to the trash bin on the way to the door after self-introduction. (Don't worry. KSK is still alive, and they are close friends.)

The entire show was more than 9 hours. In the last game, FG Streamer was 2800 points behind the Talk Show team. But Kokujin managed to win 24300 points  (Tsumo after Riichi, 8100 all) and won the tournament.

Here is the results after each turn.

First player (Sentosu)
  1. FG Streamer 140,500
  2. Female 128,300
  3. Talk Show 105,500
  4. Uploader 25,700

In the last round, one of Kokujin's opponents is an infamous streamer who is also a porn actress (picture - right).
