The Big Picture

"I'm going to tell you one last time, just counterpick Dhalsim with Yun!"

"I wrote a bestselling book about winning at life,
and you want me to counterpick someone 10 years younger?
It's just not happening...."

"That's totally unrelated!
You know plebs only watch Evo and Capcom Cup, you need to wi-"
"The Illuminati just informed us that $500,000 will go to Mr. Umehara's appearance fee, sir. They really want to make the tournaments look legit."

"Never mind. I was wrong.
We should focus on the big picture. Stay true to yourself.
Counterpicking is a disgrace anyway."

Daigo Umehara's Road to Capcom Cup 2014
Umehara had the most difficult route for a spot in this final day. He had to win Capcom Pro Tour Taiwan, then had to win a round-robin featuring two Evo champs plus three Evo top 8 (even played GamerBee twice) in Capcom Pro Tour Asia Finals.

11:37 - Matt Dahlgren appears, thanking the Illuminati.
11:40 - Alex Valle appears to play OSF4, with a Dhalsim player who should be banned from the FGC long time ago for collusion and behaviors. - Umehara must not lose 3-0 this match, because there's still a chance that Xian will surpass him to 1st place due to GD. (14-3 vs. 9+3)
- Poongko won't get 2nd place even if he wins 3-0 this match, due to head-to-head result vs. Xian.

- Xian just casually pulled a can of Red Bull off the fridge behind him after the first game.
- Xian said this's not collusion. (Though it appeared that it was, as the result of this match won't matter to him. Gackt will at least earn achievement of being 3rd place, which is good on profile.)
- The result of this match makes Poongko 4th place.
- The commentator said Red Bull is from Austria, despite the fact that it's from Thailand.

Thank you Taito
Thank you Taito for organizing these large scale tournaments and stream for free (3 separated streams even). They seem to make little to no profit for promoting USF4 (indirectly promote their arcade chain) which is also on consoles. The prize money is big, too.

Capcom Japan, who is infamous for treating the community badly and give no prize money, would've tried to find a way to charge us, like they did in 2012.

Video Games World Cup announced

Something called Video Games World Cup is announced today.

Our summary
  • An online league will be formed for each sub tournament (42) in each country (said 180+)
  • Up to 128 players compete each week for 29 weeks
  • Winner of each week and top ranker qualify for national finals
  • You can pay $30 each week for the chance (You keep the points)
  • National champions qualify for continental finals (June 22-28, 2015)
  • Continental champions take free trip (flight+hotel) to "World Cup Finals"
  • "World Cup Finals" will be in New York, July 3-5, 2015
  • Promise big money .....but only if there're enough players
  • Website isn't properly constructed
  • Games including "Street Fighter IV" (from the cover) not Ultra
  • "Tekken" (what Tekken?)
  • Starcraft II "Wings of Liberty" (from the cover) not Heart of the Swarm
  • It's organized by French?

Yes, it looks fishy and unlikely to live up to its name. We don't see 128 Japanese players paying $30 each week in a USF4 tournament, let alone Tekken or any other game.

[TGS2014 Day 3] USF4 Omega Edition announced

It's announced today on Capcom's USF4 stage show that a new mode, called Omega Edition, will be added to Ultra Street Fighter IV.

The new mode is said to change the game as we know completely, as it will feature new sets of character moves exclusive to this mode.

Update: Official information in English is added below. The Omega Edition will come with a new balance patch.

we will be releasing the version 1.04 patch in October.

We’re not stopping there however! In our ongoing effort to make sure that Ultra SFIV is the greatest version of SFIV yet, we bring you a completely new, completely free and most importantly completely fun version of your favorite 44 characters in Omega Mode!

For those wondering, Omega mode is a completely new mode in which every character has been modified and outfitted with new normal and special attacks, resulting in a refreshing take on the characters you’ve come to know and love over the last six years. As the primary goal for this mode was fun, we placed more emphasis on making the characters feel new, than on their balance. This means that strong, fan favorite attacks such as Ken’s Shinppu Jinrai Kyaku and Sagat’s Tiger Raid make their return while other characters such as Zangief gain new abilities, like being able to combo into his command throws.

Now I know the next question that comes to mind is, “will this be playable online?” My answer to that is “it most definitely will be!” But as this mode is for fun, Omega mode will be restricted to unranked matches only. Additionally all official Capcom tournaments and Capcom Pro Tour affiliate tournaments will use the default Ultra balance, not Omega mode, as the tournament standard.
