KSK book translated by Tokido

Tokido yesterday had posted a translation of a book that KSK wrote 12 years ago.

What impressed me is KSK's attitude about exploiting a game's mechanics. He'll go for it for the best possible outcome to avoid any doubt. He didn't mind using a move or combo that some people consider too good as if it's cheating. Because it's still under the game rules. "Game" already has rules, you don't make a rule for yourself.

Other part I like is the "Good Game" attitude. When you lost, it's not a good game. If it was, try losing 100 games in a row.

(And of course, the famous line "I don't say I'm not strong, it'll be an insult toward people I've beaten.")

I totally agree with him. More respect to KSK. He's a living legend.

GODSGARDEN #3 detailed

Just a couple hours ago, it's revealed in Kao TV and via the official website that GODSGARDEN #3 is all about Tekken 6! The winner gets 200,000 yen and Evo Japan seed, and anyone else gets nothing. The event will be held on February 5.

On the same news, GODSGARDEN #4 is planned as Evolution Japan (or Evolution+GODSGARDEN as known to the Japaneses). It will happen in the first week of May.

The Holy War: 101 games between Daigo Umehara and Tokido

I should write about this long time ago. Today I saw an article about this, it reminded me to finally write about it. I've never seen a site has a full details about this.

The Holy War (or "Jihad", coming from Tokido himself) took place on exactly midnight between November 15-16 (2010) when Tokido started streaming his Ranked Match gameplay of Super Street Fighter IV on Xbox Live. At the time, Tokido was second place in Japan, just right behind Daigo Umehara who had around 7,800 PP. Tokido had around 6,600 or so. He was aiming for 7,000 PP.

It looked like an ordinary "Ura Kao TV" at first. (GODSGARDEN casual show is called Kao TV, if it's streamed on Nico it'll be called "Ura Kao TV" or The Other Side of Kao TV) Tokido didn't even show his face or talk. But then he met Umehara via auto-matching. After meeting Umehara several times in a row, Tokido decided to refuse anyone who wasn't "gameinn." The fights were good, the viewers loved it, and Tokido got a lot of PP fighting someone above him. Nothing to complain about.

Note again that this ALL happened in Ranked Match mode, they didn't mean to fight each other at first. Though in the last 15 games or so, Umehara phoned Tokido that he's sleepy and would quit soon. They took a quick break and fought until 101 games. It was early morning when they stopped.

They fought total 101 games. Umehara (Ryu) won 63 games. Tokido (Akuma) won 37 games. They drew 1 game by Double K.O. In the end, Umehara was brought down to 7,300 PP and Tokido went to 6,900 PP. Even Ume won a lot more, his PP still didn't look good. Blame the PP system.

The meme "Miemasenyone!" ("You didn't see it, right?!") also came from this Holy War. Tokido said it when Umehara was eating his vortex or "Tokido-Shiki" (means Tokido Style).

This's another legend of Daigo Umehara and Tokido. They unintentionally fought 101 games in front of thousands of fans. The last part of the show had more than 20,000 visitors and 37,000 comments. I was so lucky to watch this almost 7 hours straight LIVE.

Note
The name Kao TV came from an episode of GODSGARDEN casual show that was originally named "Soushihan TV." When (Soushihan) KSK was testing the microphone, the sound was loud (big) and someone complaint about it. Someone later said the face is big, too! (Kao Dekai) Then everyone made fun of him so he adopted the name Kao TV. Kao means "face."

Kao TV 2011.01.14

- Watch the first part here. Second part here (paid membership required)
- Ustream began maintenance half-way so they moved to Nico.
- The show was 3 hours 40 minutes long.
- It seems like the last rank above Grand Master is Ultimate Master. There can be only one Ultimate Master, it's the Grand Master who has the highest BP in Japan.

e-Sports Senshuken 2011 gets Evo Japan seed

KSK revealed that the winner of e-Sports Senshuken 2011 will also get a seed in Evo Japan. This's the second seed given away. The first one is the winner of GODSGARDEN 2.5 Nemo.

The tournament streaming starts today at NSB's channel, NSB1 (360) and NSB2 (PS3).

Rare footage of Ume Yun

If this's not the first (clear) footage of Daigo Umehara's Yun then it's definitely one of the first.

- He got 45,000 BP in less than a month, after the release of SSF4AE.
- He's No.1 in Japan. (He has the most BP in the country.)
- His in-game name "Umehara" is now written in Hiragana, not Katakana like usual. I guess someone took it before him.
- Cabinet on the right, Fei-Long user is Mizoteru. (a famous Blanka user)

Thing I want to add is Umehara usually plays at Safari game center. This place is popular among top players especially those who live in Tokyo. The other top players who frequent there are Mago, Tokido, Nemo, etc. Players who play in the same game center will be linked so these top players fight each other several times everyday. (So don't get too excited on the results.) Note that this place charges you 50 yen per credit which is considered cheap. Normally they charge you elsewhere 100 yen per credit.

Evo 2011 dated, features new seed system

"Evolution World Finals" 2011 will take place on July 29-31 at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. A new seed system was also announced. Now players ranked 1-16th place from the selected tournaments will earn points that will be used to determine where will they be in the Evolution 2011. More points mean higher-placed seed.

It's unclear (as of now) that how many points are required to get a seed, as I don't think 1-5 points are enough.

There're currently 10 selected tournaments including a tournament in Australia and Canada. No new news about Evo Japan...

Nuki talks Umehara: First Encounter

- He first met Umehara when he was 13 years old.
- He saw Umehara using Guile in Street Fighter II X at Akihabara. He first thought Umehara's Guile was boring. He used Chun-Li.
- He likes "Moe" female  characters so he used Lilith and Morrigan. He later switched to Bishamon, same with Umehara, because he didn't think the girls will do well against him.
- He admit he's Umehara fan.

The previous episode is here.

Recreating Tougeki 2010 Final with SSF4

What if 2010's Tougeki (Super Battle Opera) used Super Street Fighter IV instead of (arcade) Street Fighter IV? Famitsu recreate the final between Team Okozukai 2000 yen and Team Takeda Ke using SSF4 as previously reported.

I just watched it and if you don't want to know the results, don't read below.

Best of Daigo Umehara 2010 Edition

These are the best plays of Daigo Umehara in 2010 chosen by me and from my memory. (not in any order)

1. "UmeCopter" to bait Kindevu's Ultra in Tougeki 2010 Final. (He later used it again on YHC Mochi and F. Champ.)

2. Fullscreen hard punch Dhalsim's arm into super in Season's Beatings IV exhibition.

3. "Umehara Ranbu" in the last round of GGO2 qualifier match against YHC Mochi. (He later used it again on Uryo in the second stage.)

Umehara Ranbu is what the Japanese fans call that big combo. The name was from Ryuuko Ranbu move in Art of Fighting game used by Ryo, Robert, and Yuri.

4. Walk across the screen to throw in a match in SoCal's Pool B. (Day 1)

5. FA > combo > Ex Tatsu > Ex Fireball > Ex Tatsu on Kindevu.

6. Flying Buster Drop reaction on Mago in Canada Cup's Winners bracket final.

7. Shoryuken reaction from Hadoken. The best way to end Evo 2010. For projectile characters, the fastest way to die is shooting, (due to recovery and reaction interval) but Umehara shows why he's an exception. The last Shoryuken was fast and also unexpected.
