Due to the overwhelming success of the talk show and 100-man kumite from The Fifth Shotenkaigi on January 18, Niconico has announced that Daigo Umehara will do the 100-man kumite again at The Sixth Shotenkaigi on January 25 at WonderGOO Moriya (Ibaraki Prefecture). This time Bon-chan will also join him as a commentator (but expect some casual match).
The event will be streamed live here.
Niconico Shotenkaigi is a series of fan events held in ten book stores around the country. It's a way to get in touch with the Niconico users who live far away.

Umehara: Button mashing is the real fun
Daigo Umehara dropped some wisdoms again in the talk session in the Niconico's "Challenge Umehara" event yesterday.
During the talk about Street Fighter V and an ideal fighting game, Umehara pointed out that the real fun in a game lies in pushing buttons (lever/stick doesn't count).
Umehara explained that it all comes down to the fact that people want to push buttons and get some reward. A game is more fun when they can do this as much as they want. As a result, a game is less fun if it promotes defensive play style–because they are given less time to push buttons.
Umehara also added that you will be penalized for doing nothing in other games such as mahjong and poker. That makes him wonder why it is viable to do nothing in fighting games. He suggested that a fighting game should promote play-making, for example, by limiting how many times you can block (10 times) or escape a throw (5 times) and reducing timer from 99 seconds to 40-50 seconds per round.
Umehara said that, just like in real world, people who work deserve recognition, regardless of their skill. Beginners should be able to win simply because they work harder in a match.

He suggested that players should be able to perform something, not just waiting for the sequence to finish. He understands that it is still in development, but warned that Capcom definitely don't want to launch the game without some tweaks.

Umehara confirmed for Nico's New Year's Eve event
Daigo Umehara is confirmed to partcipate in Niconico's gaming related New Year's Eve event at Niconico's headquarters in Ikebukuro.
At the event on December 31, from 15:30 to 18:30 (JST), participants will be able to challenge Umehara in USF4 and receive some prize, regardless of the result. A live stream is planned.

Tokaigi 2015 to feature Blade Arcus tournament
It was announced this evening during Tokaigi 2015 press conference that a Blade Arcus tournament will held on January 31 in Tokaigi 2015.
The online application will begin on December 20 and end on January 14. Players will be selected by lottery. The winner of this tournament will earn a spot in Blade Arcus national tournament finals.

Umehara talk and kumite planned for Niconico Shotenkaigi on January 18

Nico to stream USF4 national Tokyo qualifier, JP ONLY
It's announced today that Niconico will be streaming Tokyo qualifier of Taito's Isshuu Sengeki Hai, which is Japan's USF4 national tournament, on August 23.
Daigo Umehara was already confirmed to compete.

Niconico to stream Evo 2014
It's announced today that Niconico will be streaming Evolution 2014. This's the same collaboration (Evo, Niconico, MadCatz ) as the last year.
Last year, it was a big surprise when they announced this (even though we had hoped for it) because the announcement came just 2 days before the tournament.

TOPANGA World League no longer IP block
Beast Note can confirm that the stream pages (all 4 days) of TOPANGA World League no longer block non-Japanese IP addresses. (Or at least the one that was tested.)
Foreign users can now watch the streams normally.
However, the warning "This program is not available in outside of Japan." are still there at the bottom of the pages. Purchase the ticket at your own risk.
The 3,500 yen ticket lets you watch or rewatch the matches of all 4 days as many times as you like until May 12.

Confirmed: TOPANGA World League not available outside Japan
As we pointed out, it turn out that the warning wasn't a mistake.
TOPANGA has confirmed that "TOPANGA World League is not available in outside of Japan."
We suspect that the decision comes from Niconico side, since they co-organize the league, and earn estimated 30% of the profit. They want to block the foreign pirates who are immune from legal actions.
Now the next question is does that mean TOPANGA League won't be available outside Japan forever?

Niconico to stream MadCatz Unveiled TGS 2013 in both Japanese and English
It's revealed today that Niconico will stream Pre-Tokyo Game Show 2013 MadCatz Unveiled through two separated streams for both Japanese and English speaking audience.
The stream will start on 18:30 JST of September 20.
Niconico occasionally has two separated streams for two languages for big events such as E3 press conference, but this's the first time for fighting game event.

Nico to stream MadCatz TGS2013 tournament, Infiltration confirmed
It's revealed that the SSF4AE2012 tournament at MadCatz booth in TGS 2013 will be streamed by Niconico. Moreover, Infiltration is confirmed to participate.
The stream link isn't announced yet, but the tournament will be held on September 22.

- The interviewer was Niconico's "Management No.3" (show producer) who was a fighting gamer and is around Umehara's age so there's a lot of in depth discussion about Street Fighter II.
- This manga project started one year ago.
- Umehara practiced how to punish Guile's crMK with Ryu's sweep using (Street Fighter II) Turbo 10 mode for 5 hours. There was no training mode dummy that time so he asked his friend to do it (Super Famicom).
- They looked at old issues of arcade gaming magazine Gamest (the magazine is long gone and the staff went to do Arcadia). Umehara pointed out that Guile vs. Zangief is 9:1 in SF2 Dash. (Ryu vs. Guile is 4:6.)
- Umehara said there's a lot of things to tell and the manga could go 30 volumes (but there's still no plan).
- There's "last boss" in the manga (someone that was above him).
- During the show when they revealed the official site of the manga, the site went down because it couldn't handle the traffic.
