Someone has made an Android application of the Denpa Jikkyo meme. You'll hear Gama no Abura shouting the phrase you touch.

Denpa Jikkyou is an Internet meme from a footage of Daigo Umehara's Guilty Gear match in 2003. Since then, it's become one of the most well-known memes on Nico Nico. The clip now has 1.46 million views.

Umehara featured in Windows 100% magazine

A tip from Gama-san. The latest issue of Windows 100% magazine (January 13) features a 2-page article about Daigo Umehara.

The magazine introduces Umehara as "the ingenious fighting game player" (as on the cover below) who is famous on Nico Nico. The article also has an interview with Gama no Abura, who plays important role in Denpa Jikkyou meme.

You probably know that Gama no Abura, the Nagoya Street Battle (NSB) organizer, also plays the game. But you probably have no idea how good he is.

This's a match in Sentosu Carnival II mini online tournament from yesterday. Gama-san fought against a 4700 PP Sakura with his 4500 PP Dictator. First to 5.

Note
- Some players had a problem with the buttons, they paused the game 2-3 times. The rule is if you pause the game, you'll be hit one combo for free by your opponent.
- [Interview after tournament] Umehara said using a new character in tournament is fun. His character in Ver.2012 is still undecided, but probably Akuma.
- Umehara played Akuma in a tournament for the first time. Most likely for fun and experiment. His default Ultra is Demon Armageddon (U2) and U2 setup is one of his tools. (We saw he practiced that in Kuwait.)
- Apparently Umehara's Akuma is not ready, he dropped combos and made slow decisions. We don't see something like that in his Ryu and Yun.

Great event! I just got back from a long sleep. And I still need a long break. Plus, I want to catch up with things I missed since I couldn't watch 3 streams at the same time. And those last day money matches. Not sure I have time to watch/write it all so short opinions/updates in my head/hands go first. (the summary posts will be updated over time.)

The Stream
- Why didn't they announce the stream URLs on the news? They revealed just when it started, and even announced the URL on the stream!
- Choosing Ustream is one of the best decisions. I don't have a problem at all.
- Having the low quality stream is also one of the best decisions (I mentioned about it before.) There're 4,200 viewers peak on the LQ stream.
- The main stream's presentation was great. Scores were updated as it happened. Camera switching was great.

Kindevu
- I'm glad he came! (He wasn't sure at first.) He's one of the true top players.
- Seth Killian said something bad about him, but I don't think it's true at all.
- He said he'll return next year!

Umehara
- The result didn't surprise me at all. He had to fight Poongko first, and there're 3 C. Viper players.
- Good thing, some people now finally realized that he's not invincible.

Other players
- I don't expect Momochi to win Evo, but I didn't expect Tokido and Mago to beat him either.
- Mago was random as usual. He won or lost when he shouldn't.

Commentators
- AKA & James Xie (BlazBlue finals), Chen, UltraDavid, Keits, Aris were impressive. I think AKA & Xie made some people buy BlazBlue after watching.

Japan Booth
Thanks to Gama no Abura (with the help of Nekohashi who acts as a translator), this's the first time Evo has a Japanese media coming directly from its fighting game community. There's a lot of interviews and casual talks, and all streamed to Japan. The station was also used as a place to hang out, too. Even Harada (Tekken producer) and Ono (SF4 producer) were there. Evo 2012
- Shiro said that he'll come again! (That means Fuudo, Shungoku Neurosis will probably come, too)
- Gama-san is in love with Evo now and it looks like he'll return again.
- I hope Frieda return next year. The big changes in UMvC3 will help. He's the only well-known JP player who chooses MvC3 over SF4. All he can do is studying from YouTube clips, beside playing with Tokido and Nemo. Respect.

Fuudo
This is actually the second international SF4 tournament he won. He won World Game Cup in France last year with Ryu, over Umehara. He also plays with Umehara in the game center often. He trained with Shungoku N. Viper before the finals. Winning Evo is understandable. Now he's on everyone's radar, it'll be tougher for him from now on.

A Viper killer?
Fuudo beat Wolfkrone 2-0, 4 rounds straight. He beat Latif twice, winning 5 games out of 6.

Nyanshi is confirmed. He's coming with Mago & Tokido, and is on the same flight with Shiro group. Gama-san and Frieda left together already.

Kazunoko said he just got back from playing with (and getting beaten up by) Umehara tonight. So Umehara probably leaves very late.

• July 26: Kindevu is confirmed to come. (He's at the airport and leaving with KayoPolice) Sako's Wife said that Sako's not coming, unless he changes his mind.
• July 16: The list from the news in the previous update might not be accurate, since KSK did confirm (skip to 2:38) that he'll be at the Evo meeting held by GODSGARDEN in Japan. The event lets the fans come to watch the stream and cheer together.
• July 16: Evo organizer revealed a list of Japanese players who are coming to Evo 2011. Kindevu (was thinking) decided to come. RF is coming. KSK seems to be on a secret mission, same with the last year. Nyanshi is a strong Sagat player, and was the main man behind TOPANGA Charity Cup, so maybe he's on a secret mission as well. Nabe is Tokido's pupil. He'll be both a player and a cameraman as revealed in the previous episodes of TOPANGA TV. Kuni, who was at Evo 2009 but not 2010, will return.

Nagoya Street Battle 25

Nagoya Street Battle 25 today was quite entertaining. Kindevu played well and he's on the same team with Eita. As you know, Eita led his team to win NSB24 and OCV'd Momochi team. But this time, Momochi came back with Yun instead of Cody, his team beat Eita team in the final.

(Momochi keeps changing his main. From Akuma (SF4) to Ibuki (SSF4), then Ken (SSF4), then Cody (AE), and now Yun.)

One of the highlights is when Ryan Hart was on the camera chatting with Gama-san and Choco Blanka. The (Japanese) chat exploded after he suddenly switched from speaking English to Japanese. They're surprised and impressed by his Japanese. The chat and Eita agreed that he should teach Eita some Japanese. (Eita is known to speak broken Japanese, and he named his stream channel 日本語不自由配信 (Japanese language disabled broadcasting))

Hart came to Japan to start and learn about SSF4AE for 2 weeks now. His main is now Yun. He said he spent 6 hours on the bus to come to the event at Nogoya, and he didn't sleep. He's on the same team with Sako and Rikuson, which was eliminated by Momochi team.

Umehara meme featured in eroge

It was reported (link NSFW) that a scene in a newly released adult PC game features the Denpa Jikkyou meme, an Internet meme derived from a gameplay footage of Daigo Umehara.

The scene shows Andou Rosa, a genius hacker, playing a weird arcade fighting game. The text box below reads

The game, called Henshiin!!! -Pantsu ni Natte Kunkun Perepero-, is about a boy who can transform into underpants of a beautiful girl of choice. The limited edition of the game (8,800 yen) comes with real girl's underpants.

Umehara Believer winners announced

The winners of "Umehara Believer" campaign was announced just an hour ago. It's like a dream, but Gama no Abura, Nagoya Street Battle organizer and one of the true Umehara fanboys, won it. ChocoBlanka also won it.

In March, people who bought Arcadia Extra Vol.84 got a chance to win "Umehara Shinja" (ウメハラ信者 or Umehara Believer) title for their Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition card*. From his tweet a couple months ago, Gama-san apparently bought more than one. And ChocoBlanka also sent 2 postcards.

*NESYS card used to record and track your data and stats in arcade game centers. You can modify your character this way.

Anyway, Acqua, another true Umehara fanboy, didn't make it. He said he "wants to cry" because he wants it so much. I feel very sorry for him, because on the same day he just had a traffic accident. He got hit by a car sending him flying away for about 2 metres.... He (miraculously) suffered only a minor injury but he said that was closest to death.

Update 1: Gama-san accidentally cancelled his ID that has the title....
Update 2: ChocoBlanka was so excited. She went out immediately and came back with a picture of her "Umehara Believer."

Evo 2011 and Japan (part1?)

I have many little things to say about this year's Evolution and Japan side, so let's put them all here.

Who's coming to Evo 2011?

• Umehara - Of course.
• Tokido - Should be no problem. He has a sponsor now, not to mention that he has a relative in US.
• Mago - He watched Evo stream last year closely and really wants to come since then. He won 500,000 yen from GODSGARDEN Online #2 so money shouldn't be an issue. He also said he'll come since The Canada Cup last year.
• Gama no Abura - He showed a strong interest since last year. He mentioned about plane ticket last week, and just confirmed that he'll come as a media reporter.
• KSK(?) - It looks like KSK made a last minute decision last year to come to Evo 2010. He shared a hotel room with Tokido and Eita. He went back and forth to the hotel just to update us via Twitter because he couldn't find Internet access at the venue. (and that's why he went to (SSF4) Loser Bracket due to lateness...) For this year, I'm not sure he'll come. I think Inaba-san (GG co-founder) actually has more chance than him.

Evo Tour
Some Japanese fans proposed to KSK and Gama-san the idea of organizing a tour from Japan to Evolution. It's a good idea but it probably won't happen, at least this year.

A separated Japanese stream?
Gama-san (and probably someone from GODSGARDEN) with a laptop and Internet provides many possibilities about steaming. If Evo allows, he could make a stream focussing on Japanese players when they're not playing or not on the official stream.

A real Japanese commentator?
Gama-san is a legendary commentaor, it'd be epic if they let him on the mic on the official stream.

Evo 2011 on Nico's official channel
Nico Nico Douga began streaming more and more American/European anime and game events/conventions for months. With last year's Tougeki stream, I don't see why Evo shouldn't be on Nico, too. (2 separated stream channels for 2 languages) This's business opportunity or just for getting more exposure to Japanese audience. Evo could sell a right to broadcast (or just offer it for free for free PR) to Nico using GODSGARDEN as a negotiator. Nico stream is so smooth I never have an issue. And if Evo is on Nico, it'll totally make Tougeki look bad because Tougeki streamed on Nico last year and it's pay-per-view. (1,500 yen a day)

Kao TV 2011.05.13

 - They had a problem with Ustream, so they moved to Nico. Gama-san came to rescue (as usual) by doing a mirror.
- Kao TV is now sponsored by Nvidia. There's another sponsor yet to be announced.
- Inaba-san was there.
- Gama-san confirmed that he'll be at Evo this year.
- Guest is FAX Gimoto. He just appeared in Chiba vs. Kanagawa 39 on 39 on April 30. (Watch recorded stream here or Nico video here.)
- A new regular is revealed. Nakajima-san who is a Tekken player and a sparring partner of Tokido.
- In previous Ura Kao TV, KSK let viewers decide (by voting) what character to play in Ranked Match from 0 to 2,000 PP. The first character is Makoto and he made it to 2,000 on Thursday. The second character is T-Hawk, so he continued playing T-Hawk a bit. But he then switched back to Makoto. Gimoto did a great job giving him useful advices.
- Gimoto played Mokoto and showed how good he is. He apparently like to bait Super/Ultra.
- There're many people who made a new ID just to troll KSK in Ranked Match. (Their GamerTag are obvious.)
- Gimoto is funny and was a bit drunk so he brought up some forbidden topics like conflicts between people in Japan's Street Fighter community.
- They teased GODSGARDEN's next project.
- 2,000 viewers on Nico, 1,000+ viewers on Ustream.

Stunfest 2011 Summary(?)

Tokido won Super Street Fighter IV (single) and Marvel vs Capcom 3 (single) at Stunfest in France. He probably won more, but this's only what I can confirm from watching (a part of) the (re)stream and video uploaded on Nico.

The organizer used Dailymotion to stream the event, but obviously I and some people couldn't watch it. The stream stuck at the opening clip. However, Gama-san (Gama no Abura from Nagoya Street Battle) was kind enough to do a mirror stream on USTREAM (and provide Japanese chat) and update some information for us.

Umehara as an Internet meme

For some Japaneses, Daigo Umehara may not be known from his gaming skills, but from being in the MAD videos on Nico Nico Douga video sharing site. The meme, called Denpa Jikkyou (電波実況), has started from a footage of his Guilty Gear XX match against player Shishamo in Super Battle Opera 2003 that was uploaded on March 6, 2007. The 17 seconds of Umehara's gameplay was commentated by a series of shoutings consisting of the lines as below in order. The shouting commentator was Gama no Abura, you may now know him as Nagoya Street Battle tournament organizer.

NSB TV, Kao TV upgraded

NSB TV began using a new stream broadcasting program in yesterday's show. It seems like the program is Wirecast, as Gama used to mention on Tuesday.

I think the Japaneses were impressed by the presentation of Team Spooky's stream in Canada Cup. (Spooky uses Wirecast.)

After NSB TV ended, KSK tweeted that he bought Ustream Producer PRO ($199) and was learning. It's chain reaction, I guess.

NSB TV and NSB Online announced

Nagoya Street Battle (NSB) TV (tentative name) will be streamed every Wednesday between 21.00-24.00 and hosted by Eita, Kin Devu, Kokujin, Choco, and guests.

The show will have 3 corners (as of now)

- "Kouryaku! Choco Musume" (tentative name) aims for beginners. (The name is a parody of Shinryaku! Ika Musume.)

- Ranked matches against the viewers.

- NSB Online

NSB Online is like GODSGARDEN Online but is an open online tournament, not invite-only like GGO. The winner of this tournament will receive official SSF4 online title "Shishifunjin" from Capcom. The qualifier starts on November 17. The participants must have 4,000 PP or above.

A separated online tournament "Beat By Contest Online Qualifier" was also announced, the winner from 8 nominees will get a free trip (plane ticket and travel expenses) to Beat By Contest tournament (with Mago) in Switzerland next year's February.
