Tougeki 2012: stream links, prices revealed
Nico Nico revealed today the final details of Tougeki 2012 streams. The links and the pricing are as below.
360 P4U lag patch is coming
Atlus's official P4U PR Blog now posted an update regarding the "online match flaw on Xbox 360 version of P4U." This time the message came from Atlus's P4U game director Wada.
He and the team apologized for the issue, and said that the patch was finished and is being tested. They will released the patch as soon as possible but there are still procedures (which they have nothing to do) before that, so they asked users to wait a little while. The information about the distribution date will be posted later.
They promised that they will be more careful on quality control in the future. They then apologized for the issue again.

Kubo announces P4U online tournament
Kubo announced tonight that he will hold an online P4U tournament on August 3 (or this Friday) starting from 21:00 JST on his stream. The platform is, of course, PlayStation 3. He will accept only 32 players. The players must have at least 5-dan rank.
Kubo plays P4U as main when he goes go the arcades. It is interesting to see if he will still keep UMvC3 as his main on the consoles or not. The arrival of the console versions of P4U clearly gives him new motivation.
Kubo is the leading figure in UMvC3 scene in Japan. He was behind the first few offline MvC3 tournaments (KUBODSGARDEN and KVO). There will be a drastic change to the Japanese UMvC3 community if Kubo has lost interest in the game.
Kubo the Debugger
Although Kubo is known for playing less popular games as he loves air dash and air guard, his passion in FGs is more than most people. He bought minor FGs (even self-published PC games) just to try out. And the first things he did to the games is looking for glitches, unblockables, and infinites. (No wonder he discovered Kubota Escape, the glitch that became talk of the town at Evo 2012.) For P4U, he actually started collecting frame data from recorded videos of the arcade version since March.
Kubo's stream channel on Nico Nico has the highest subscriber number in non-Street Fighter FG streams. He also shares the stream with Frieda and Tsujigawa who share the same interest.

Mago, Fuudo on Gunslinger Stratos trip to Osaka
Mago, Fuudo, Nyanshi reportedly went to Osaka since Friday (July 27) for an unknown reason. All we heard is they went to play Gunslinger Stratos at Round 1 Umeda branch. And they are coming back.
We suspect that this is a not-so-stealth promotion of the game arranged by Square Enix or the game center itself. Round 1 Umeda is known to be the only place in Japan that has 16 cabinets of Gunslinger Stratos. Could it be because the game center ordered so many then SE gave them a free promotion?
Note that Osaka is 500 kilometer away from Tokyo. Traveling there is not cheap, especially to play a game at a game center. Another assumption is they went there to collect some stock footages of players in that region for TOPANGA League.

Tougeki 2012: first stream details
Tougeki producer just revealed a few minutes ago on tonight official pre-Tougeki 2012 P4U tournament that Tougeki 2012 will be streamed on Nico Nico and it will be pay-per-view.
Tougeki started streaming on Nico Nico since 2010. The net ticket in both 2010 and 2011 were priced at 1,500 yen. But we expect the ticket to be priced higher than the last year since Tougeki 2012 has 8 titles, Tougeki 2011 had only 4.
Tougeki 2012 Finals will be held together with Game Summer Festival 2012. The whole event will have stage shows of games from various genres, as well as concerts. It is organized by Enterbrain, the publisher of Famitsu and Arcadia magazine. Tougeki is also under its roof.
Game Summer Festival 2012 will be held on August 4-5. The ticket (including the access to Tougeki 2012 venue ) prices are as below.

360 P4U lag issue statement posted by Atlus
Atlus's official P4U PR Blog now posted a statement regarding the "online match's time lag issue on Xbox 360 version of P4U" (that we reported yesterday).
They apologized and said they are "currently looking into the cause," and it "will take time."
They also suggested users to try the following settings as a temporary fix.
1. Custom Match
2. Same Area Only
3. Good Connection Only
But it probably will not help, since Kubo did that exactly.
The PR blog said they will post a follow-up report and asked the users to wait a little while.

Game no Jikan 100: KayoPolice vs Nagisa in P4U
The 100th episode of Game no Jikan show featured a P4U match between KayoPolice and Nagisa!
The show this week introduces P4U and normally it's KayoPolice's duty to demonstrate the gameplay of a fighting game. But this time, Nagisa was actually the one who lead this.
Due to the P4U Effect, Nagisa started fighting game because of it. Her character movements in the show was very impressive, especially considering she had never touched an arcade stick before KSK taught her -- 17 months ago.
Nagisa's main is Yukiko, the character that she cosplayed. KayoPolice, who did less homework, played Chie and Mitsuru.
Nagisa is a model and a show personality (and a cosplayer) who co-hosts the show with KayoPolice and Kouji Watanabe (a game writer).
The show also celebrated the 100th episode by showing the highlights of the past episodes.

Pay-per-view pre-Tougeki P4U tournament planned
Nico Nico announced today that it will stream pre-Tougeki 2012 P4U tournament on July 28 (this Saturday) starting from 23:00 JST.
The double elimination tournament will have 8 players who already qualified the Tougeki 2012 Finals. The stream will be pay-per-view however. The net ticket is priced at 300 yen.
It looks like this PPV tournament is Tougeki's idea. And it is very weird. We heard some of the names, but do not really know any of these players. They will also compete anyway in 1 on 1 format, same with this. There is also no indication whether this is offline or online.
This is a blatant move if they really think they can just make money out of a stream of anyone who are good at a popular game. Because style and personality is much more important than being good alone.

2 weeks later Umehara still playing Gunslinger Stratos
Since Daigo Umehara rarely showed any interest in other games, we think it is big for him to spend an entire week playing Gunslinger Stratos. We follow reports closely to see how things go. Here is the new update.
Two weeks after the release date of Gunslinger Stratos, Umehara is still playing the game. He plays it every single day including today according to daily report.
Recently, his team usually consists of him, Fuudo, Mago, and Kana Ueda. Ueda is the famous voice actress (and a game lover) we already mentioned several times. She worked with Umehara on promoting Gunslinger Stratos appearing together in events. She also bought his book when it came out. It looks like they are now friends. She was seen playing in his team several times after work.

GODSGARDEN streaming P4U
As you probably noticed from the previous post, P4U is now released in Japan. It is now okay to stream the gameplay. (Since Nico Nico prohibits the streaming of a game before its release date.) Kubo already streamed once 45 minutes after midnight.
GODSGARDEN's casual stream (aka Ura Kao TV) began streaming a few minutes ago. The players are Kazunoko, Naruo, Nekojita.
Kazunoko is already good at this game and was able to beat Shiro 14-8 in the latest duel in the arcade on July 18. And now, Shiro is planning to strike Kazunoko on the stream.
Updates on what happened
- Kazunoko introduced the systems and characters to Naruo and viewers.
- Kazunoko thinks Sanada is weak, not recommended to beginners.
- Naruo dislikes charge characters and robots. He picked Hanamura.
- KSK picked Kanji and finished most of trials offscreen.
- Kazunoko gives advices as KSK and Naruo play against each other.
- Nekojita already knows how to play. He plays as Kuma, has around 300 PSR in arcade.
- Kazunoko thinks Chie, Mitsuru, Aigis are the strongest.

360 version of P4U and unplayable lag online
In case you didn't see our urgent post and the stream, we want to give you an important update about P4U.
Kubo bought both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of P4U and tried the online play on his stream. The 360 version had an unplayable lag (heavy slowdown). He tested with 4 different users. He also tried switching back and forth to training mode. The problem was really the online play.
He then tried the PS3 version. The online play was okay on PS3.
You probably know Kubo as an UMvC3 player, but when he goes to the arcades, he plays P4U as main game.

Umehara talk show announced for Shibuya Message Festival 2012
Daigo Umehara announced tonight on TOPANGA TV that he will have his own talk show at Shibuya Message Festival on August 5. The event is a big cultural festival. It has music contest, performances, and talk shows.
As previously reported, this is the reason he cancelled the appearance in Tougeki 2012's 3rd Strike tournament.
Notes
- The recorded stream is here (Umehara starts at 1:44:00).
- Tokido is going to Singapore this week.
- Umehara said Singapore's chicken rice is delicious.
- Umehara said Sako told him some Gen countermeasures when they were at airport.
- Interesting coincidence: Umehara rarely appears on a stream, but he appeared at the same time with Nana Mizuki (Japan's No.1 singer voice actress in popularity). She was on Nico Nico stream to promote new single. The last time she was on the stream was one year ago.

P4U is coming
This Thursday, or next 2 days, the console version of Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena will be released in Japan. We think it will be one of the biggest impacts in JFGC (Japan Fighting Game Community) in past 4 years. So let's talk about it a bit.
Key elements:
1. Persona 4 or Shin Megami Tensei/Persona series in general already has large fan base in Japan.
2. It's going to be on console.
3. It's developed by a veteran FG developer (Arc System Works).
4. It corrected the mistakes in BlazBlue.
Persona 4 series is big in Japan. The original game was released in 2008. The six-month long anime just ended in March, a theatrical version was released last month. The PS Vita version was also released last month. Various merchandises are still being released (such as this or this or this or this). Moreover, it has a lot of female fans. (It is actually branded as a series for girls who are into homosexual (Fujoshi) in Japan.) Some of those is picking up P4U as first fighting game. Many people also said that you can attract girls at game centers if you're good at this game.
While people don't like Arc System Works for what they did in BlazBlue, the fact that P4U is co-produced and directed by Atlus staff probably helps.
There're 2 big problems in BlazBlue. First, it doesn't have an art direction. The characters is like a compilation of works submitted by kids.
Street Fighter and the likes are about martial artists. Samurai Shodown is about samurai. Darkstalkers is about legendary creatures. Otaku fighters are about girls. Comic/anime fighters already have story. But does anyone know what is the concept behind BlazBlue?
The second problem in BlazBlue is it's TOO combo-friendly. The hit-stun is crazy long and makes the combo window too wide. The Burst is very limited. So while it's easier to combo, you don't have a proper way to deal with it.
P4U doesn't have these problems. It has average combo window. Burst can also be refilled within the round.
Is Japan moving to a new era?
The rise of Daigo Umehara in Street Fighter IV since 2009 created a fighting game boom in Japan. That's when JFGC as we know today (organizations and visible audience) was born and SF4 was crowned. But right now, he participates less tournaments and is busy with Gungslinger Stratos. Fans who follow SF4 only because of him, like Beast Note, is abandoning the ship. Less viewers mean less players, since many people only play when it matters. And when players only train before a tournament, it makes competition meaningless.
These days, there's no nagging for SF4 like in the past anymore on GODSGARDEN's stream. The decrease in demand of SF4 also leads to a power vacuum. People will watch anything on the stream -- it doesn't matter anyway. They can't tell which side is the majority, and are afraid to express their feelings (like/dislike). People now come to meet, not come to watch. The atmosphere has changed from a soccer stadium to a cafeteria. The unison of comment screaming of hype (picture below) is hard to pull now outside a big tournament match.
If SF4 is truly fading, then Japan is in the process of choosing its next main fighting game. What will it be?
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was improved greatly from the original game. The X-Factor is now better than SF4's Ultra Combo. It now has decent gameplay. But you know, Japan is not going to play a game with half of the casts come from the series they don't appreciate. There're much less online players than SF4. There's also no arcade scene, which means less activities.
Street Fighter x Tekken has too many reasons to fail.
King of Fighters died with its art directions in 1998.
3D fighters can't be big as long as they can't convince the viewers that there're something underlying those moves. They need to reinvent themselves and overcome the Poke Juggler stigma. Note that when big explosions, a cut-in of a character screaming something, and a cool finishing move are the definition of fighting in manga/anime, the Japanese wouldn't expect less.
P4U has the best chance. It has everything it needs - fan base, directions, solid and flashy gameplay. And it's getting players from both SF4 and BlazBlue/Guilty Gear community.
Shiro, Shungoku Neurosis, Kazunoko (originally a Guilty Gear player), Dogura, Kubo (also a BlazBlue player) are playing. Sako, KSK (and his crews), RF will play on the consoles. More well-known players are expected to follow when they realized that there're viewers from both inside and outside the community.
But to be honest, it'll be tough to replace SF4. At least not until Tougeki 2012 and the next TOPANGA League A. We are far from being a fan of Persona 4 series, and we still think that Ougon Musou Kyoku is better. But the arrival of P4U is more than noteworthy.

Shiro, Shungoku Neurosis play P4U on Geccha!
Shiro and Shungoku Neurosis appeared on Geccha! yesterday to show some Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Area gameplay.
Shiro was an Abel player and is a Makoto player in SF4, but he recently devoted a lot of time to P4U to the point that we think he is switching main game.
Shiro's main character is Mitsuru. S. Neurosis's is Chie.
Geccha! is an Internet game show on Nico Nico that introduce new games weekly. The show is cohosted by Ayana Tsubaki, a transsexual personality/model who is into fighting games.
The console version of P4U will be released in Japan on July 26.

SBO2012: Umehara cancels 3rd Strike
Haitani revealed almost 2 weeks ago that Daigo Umehara will not participate in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike in Tougeki 2012.
On April 28, Haitani and Momochi successfully convinced Umehara to join them for 3rd Strike tournament in this year Tougeki. But when Tougeki announced its date of the finals on May 24, Umehara found out that there is a schedule conflict. He already has a plan on that day.
However, Haitani and Momochi team will still compete even with 2 members.
Tougeki 2012 will be held between August 4-5, and 3rd Strike is on the second day.

Umehara main game now is Gunslinger Stratos?
According to the reports, it is revealed that Daigo Umehara is spending many hours everyday playing Gunslinger Stratos since it was released to the arcades on July 12.
As you know, Umehara was always at Taito Station Shinjuku Minami-guchi branch playing SSF4AE2012. But now he moved to somewhere else that has 8 cabinets of Gunslinger Stratos. The Shinjuku Minami-guchi branch has only 4 cabinets.
Umehara was seen playing at Taito Station Big Box Takadanobaba (6th floor inside this building) and 2 other places in Ikebukuro.
Fuudo, Mago, Tokido, Nyanshi were also seen playing with Umehara.
Umehara has been appointed as the "official supporter" of Gunslinger Stratos by Square Enix in January. Later in April, Team Umehara (Umehara, Mago, Tokido, Fuudo) was formed for location test. We also expect to see the team compete in next year's official tournaments that have 10 million yen payout.
All the cabinets in the country are linked, so people have a chance to play with famous players using auto-matching even they are in different game centers. It is still unclear whether Umehara is hired to play intensively or not, but the strategy surely draws a lot of people to the game centers.
Umehara used to say in a magazine interview that he considered playing Gunslinger Stratos as a main game (beside the Famitsu interview where he said 2012 is about SF4 and GS). We thought it was just a humor at that time.

Gunslinger Stratos final trailer released
Square Enix released the final trailer of Gunslinger Stratos today. The trailer introduces characters, gameplay, missions, as well as new areas: Saitama, Nagoya, Yokohama. The theme song of the game that you hear "Transfer" is from "livetune adding Nakajima Megumi." Gunslinger Stratos is an arcade 4 on 4 light-gun shooter that lets players battle in stages based off real locations in Japan. Players can buy new equipments and customize their characters. All the cabinets in Japan are linked so players around the country can team up or compete against each other. All the data and statistics will be saved using arcade player card (NESiCA) and can be accessed via cellphone. The game will be released on July 12 or tomorrow in Japan.

Nico to stream GODSGARDEN's Evo 2012 public viewing event
It's revealed a couple days ago that Nico Nico will be streaming GODSGARDEN's Evolution 2012 public viewing event on Sunday night in Japan (or another 5 hours).
The Evolution public viewing event is similar to the one that GODSGARDEN used to do last year where people come to watch the last day of Evolution together. It will also be held at the same place.
We used to talk about the possibility of having Nico Nico stream Evo since last year for more exposure. Although this thing is not exactly it, it's close and good enough.
The stream is not a mirror of the Evo stream. It'll have Japanese commentators and will show only the reactions of the attendees. It'll also act as an exclusive chat room to the Japanese viewers at home.
More details of the event.
- Hosted by Kami-chan (Soulcalibur V player) and Ren (BlazBlue player) of GODSGARDEN
- Guest commentators: Frieda, Nekojita, Naruo
- Open: July 8, 23:00
- Close: July 9, 16:00
- Entrance fee: 1500 yen (1000 yen for female, free for 60 years old and over)
If you still remember, the legend of Itabashi Zangief weeping came from the event last year. (He started crying happy tears when Fuudo came back on Poongko after struggling.) ItaZan weeping (板ザン号泣) later became a JFGC Internet meme.

Humming a song or talking off-topic on the stream of biggest FG tournament is bad enough. There was something that needs to be addressed.
He said something like "I wonder if I lost a passport in Japan, will there be some help like the case of Mago?" He talked like Japanese players are not generous like the American.
The truth behind this is he was the one who used to ask the Japanese FGC to let him stay in their house at least 2 occasions for free or minimum cost. Apparently not many people wanted to get involved.
FYI, KSK used to let backpacking American player SubZero sleep/stay at his game center long time ago. And Sako also let GamerBee stay at his house this year.
This's the same case with a certain foreign player living in Japan who is being given cold shoulder. Because the guy is a real troll trolling both in and outside the game.
Back to the topic, it was also Zhi last year at Evo 2011 who forced Momochi and ChocoBlanka to kiss, and forced Gama-san to shout Denpa Jikkyou meme, just for entertaining.
When Zhi was paired with skisonic today, it was a torture. Because they're good at going off-topic.
On the bright side, we have Juice Box and Magus. These two are good at play-by-play as we already mentioned. Magus improved a lot since NorCal 2 years ago. He has a weak point in JFGC stuff, but he was really smooth in everything else.

- The show had over 29,000 attendees including timeshift.
- 87.9% of the viewers voted "This show is extremely good."

She participated in both SF4AE (winning 2 opponents on the stage) and Tekken 6 tournament (also a guest commentator). She also cosplayed C. Viper on the first day, and Xiaoyu on the second day.
Kayo is expected to have a scoop about this later on TV again.
