Top 8 again
In 2011, Daigo Umehara became the only player in history to enter Evolution top 8 Street Fighter IV tournament 3 consecutive years.

In 2012, today, Umehara nailed it by becoming the only player in history to enter Evolution top 8 Street Fighter IV tournament 4 consecutive years.

Versus GamerBee
The match Daigo Umehara vs. GamerBee was so amazing "Daigo" became a worldwide trend on Twitter.

Commentators
Making Zhi a commentator is a serious mistake. Not only the guy can't draw a line between kids in the chat and a decent commentator, he took advantge of it (as expected). Humming a song or talking off-topic on the stream of biggest FG tournament is bad enough. There was something that needs to be addressed.

He said something like "I wonder if I lost a passport in Japan, will there be some help like the case of Mago?" He talked like Japanese players are not generous like the American.

The truth behind this is he was the one who used to ask the Japanese FGC to let him stay in their house at least 2 occasions for free or minimum cost. Apparently not many people wanted to get involved.

FYI, KSK used to let backpacking American player SubZero sleep/stay at his game center long time ago. And Sako also let GamerBee stay at his house this year.

This's the same case with a certain foreign player living in Japan who is being given cold shoulder. Because the guy is a real troll trolling both in and outside the game.

Back to the topic, it was also Zhi last year at Evo 2011 who forced Momochi and ChocoBlanka to kiss, and forced Gama-san to shout Denpa Jikkyou meme, just for entertaining.

When Zhi was paired with skisonic today, it was a torture. Because they're good at going off-topic.

On the bright side, we have Juice Box and Magus. These two are good at play-by-play as we already mentioned. Magus improved a lot since NorCal 2 years ago. He has a weak point in JFGC stuff, but he was really smooth in everything else.

- Momochi traveled to U.S. alone.
- Uryo has a nickname "Mr. GODSGARDEN" because he did well in the tournaments.
- Mago beat JSMaster's boxer twice in Canada Cup 2010 using Sagat. But he used Fei for PR Rog's boxer in this tournament.

Famitsu Fuudo Interview 2

Famitsu published the second part of interview with Fuudo on September 14. (read the first part here)

Summary
- Evo's atmosphere: It's really fun. Foreigners were too hyped. (in a good way)
- He said there're 1,500 participants for SSF4AE and entrance fee was $70-80.
- He said the prize money was $10,000. Less than last year.
- He trained a couple hours the night before the finals.
- Unlike in Japan, you can drink alcohol at the pool so he drank a lot at the hotel's pool. He got a terrible headache next morning (1st day of Evo) But thanks to the 5-6 hours break after the first fight, he recovered on the next fight.
- He planned to play SSF2T (side tournament) but overslept. (Umehara won it.) He was impressed that Umehara can use many character such as T. Hawk, Boxer, Sagat.
- When asked about Tekken, he said he was interested in Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
- He thinks if a game isn't popular then it doesn't look interesting even it's fun.
- He'd like to play Virtua Fighter again some time. He said VF tournament is fun. It's not about winning since he doesn't win a lot and VF players are older than SF4 anyway.
- He wants players to participate more in a tournament, not thinking about winning. He felt that a few people joined SF4 tournament even there're many players. In the past, Guilty Gear and VF normally had 200 players.
- He didn't have any expectation for the Evo.
- He was surprised by the skill level of foreign players at Evo. He couldn't say he met a truely strong player in France 1 year ago, but there're many "A class" players at Evo.
- He said a Yun player and a Fei Long player from Singapore are quite strong.
- When asked about the top 8 opponents, he said he had a Viper counterplan for Latif, and Poongko and Umehara are not impossible to win, so he thought he could win the tournament.
- Compared to Japan, he said Latif has the best Viper because there're not many Viper players in Japan.
- Mago told him some Viper counterplan on the first day.
- Latif used EX Seismo a lot so he neutral jumped a lot, too. But somehow, Latif didn't use Thunder Knuckle>Ultra to counter him.
- He thought Umehara lost to "rock-paper-scissors" against Poongko. It's about reading (yomi) shoryuken or throw.
- He uses Ultra 1 because he wants big damage if he wins a reading, while Mago uses Ultra 2 because he wants to restrict opponent's actions.
- At the beginning of the match, he was surprised a bit by Poongko's reckless style.
- He ignored Poongko's throw because it does less damage and waited to punish shoryuken. And he thought you can't throw 6 times in a row.
- He joked that if Poongko did throw him 6 times in a row then he'd give up and drink Red Bull, too.
- He said being able to connect 3 Ultra helped him to win. Seth has 800 HP but the Ultra does 500 damage.
- He thought he's not an S class player yet judging from winning percentage, but almost.

Twitter Twister

Whoever tweets on the English side of Daigo Umehara's Twitter should think a bit before writing something that ruin his image.

The TOPANGA Concept Match with Poongko was written using the word "grudge match" like there is a grudge between 2 players.

As you fans know, the Twitter is managed by someone else, but there're a lot of people who don't realize. (The same people who actually believe that Umehara provoked people in the Evo 2011's troll promo.)

The Japanese side also used the word "Evo rematch" which isn't accurate. They already played together 30 games in the game center after the Evo. (And Umehara was satisfied with the outcome.)

TOPANGA Concept Matches announced

Mago and Tokido announced this evening that there will be TOPANGA Concept Matches on September 18 (Sunday) starting at 20:00 JST.

Who will play against who is still undecided, except the opening match which is Poongko vs. Daigo Umehara. The format is first to ten, and it's offline.

SRK's exclusive interview with Fuudo part 1

SRK posted the first part of an exclusive interview with Fuudo today.

Highlight

On training regimen

"I only play at arcades, and I played for about 2-3 hours per day prior to EVO as usual."

Switching from Ryu to Fei Long

"It just daunted to me how much I would have to practice yet again so hard to win [using Ryu]."
"[Fei Long] fit me very well. I don’t need to be really aggressive, but can keep going."
"Mago teaches me a lot. I don’t teach him, just because I don’t have anything to offer him. He already knows anything I discover. So I am the only one who benefits from the relationship (lol)."

On Fuudo or Food

"It’s actually HOOD* like in hooded shirt."

"....but when I went to France for a tournament last year, my name (written in hiragana phonetics) was officially written as FOOD without my knowledge."

Expectation in first Evo

"I think my chance and my confidence level was three percent (LOL)."

The other games

"If there’s any [Virtua Fighter] tournament, I would start playing more again. But right now, I play AE."

Against Poongko

"I was not worried because I knew Daigo lost because he was out of luck, but not by skill-set level. He would have definitely won if there had been more matches."
"I was quite surprised to see that [Poongko] did the same thing over and over..."

Against Latif

"My strongest opponent was Daigo. Then probably Poongko, followed by Latif among those finalists. Latif is strong but I knew I had much better chance than a match against Daigo."

TOPANGA TV 2011.08.21

Korean guest: Bigdanmul, Hydebuffy, POONGKO, DB Cooper
Japanese guest: YHC Mochi

- Hydebuffy and DB Coopa are fluent in Japanese. Bigdanmul can speak some. Poongko is learning.
- Murata (now Tokido's pupil) surprised everyone by doing hitconfirmed Genei Jin combo. Although he can't do Yun's standard combo.
- There will be the second TOPANGA Offline Meeting next month.

Poongko
- Poongko chose to speak Japanese on the show even his friends can translate. Then his friends helped him where he needed.
- He learns Japanese from anime and games and Oota-san from Totalheads.
- Talking about GG#4: He admits that he got some lucky Shoryuken in the Sagat matches, and he misread in Uryo match. In Nemo match, his Tanden Typhoon was quick because he input it early but Nemo just came in his way so he just pressed the button.
- He said he still doesn't know much in Yun matchup. (He doesn't know how to punish certain moves.)
- Poongko is a humble guy, and this episode is another confirmation. He has a view of a person who tries hard to achieve things, not a view from above. He still said Japanese players are strong.

DB Cooper
- He will stream KOF13 and Third Strike OE.

Hydebuffy
- He said Japan's scene is more hyped.
- He admits that he's an outspoken type.
- There're not many Korean players to play with so he plays online under Japan flag. But he said it's annoying when some people from China and Hong Kong are under Japan flag, too. (followed by big laugh from everyone.)

YHC Mochi
- He said probably not many people has a PC where he lives. (He lives in Shimane prefecture.)
- He thanks the fans for voting him in GG#4.
- He likes to collect meters instead of just use it as soon as possible.
- He's in early 30.

Ogorare-kun @GODSGARDEN #4

This deserves a separated post.

During GODSGARDEN #4, there was a service at the venue called "Ogorare-kun" that lets the viewers (or an Internet users) order something from the menu and send it to the people in the event with a message. Basically you can buy your favorite player a drink of choice even you're watching at home. (If those people registered on the system.) You can also donate money to the event organizer. (The system creator is in the process of applying for a patent.)

The person who received the most orders

1. Itabashi Zangief (10 times)
2. Poongko (9 times)
3. GODSGARDEN, Mahou Shoujo Zangi-tan, Eita, Inaba (8 times tie)
