Non-match result updates (Las Vegas local time)
7:56 - Crowd before open
8:02 - Niconico stream starts
8:02 - Venue
8:16 - Arturo "Sabin" Sanchez is both player and judge in the pool. Controversy awaits.
8:21 - Nagisa cosplaying Lilith (she prepared just for this event)
8:30 - 22,300 viewers on Twitch. 33,000 unique views on Nico.
8:31 - R eating something on Nico stream again (same as last year). Bad MC.
8:32 - Fuudo on Nico.
8:54 - James Chen in red shirt. Ultra David looks normal.
8:59 - Yossan is in Losers already.
9:00 - 29,300v
9:00 - R is eating while commentating. What a pig.... (And how does Nico allow this?)
9:02 - Company booths
9:08 - MomoChoco
9:09 - Someone in chat said Xian has world's strongest eyebrows. Agreed.
9:10 - Tokido
9:15 - Uu (pronounced Ooh, KoF player) and Umezono (3rd Strike player) on Nico.
9:21 - Tokido, Eita, Haitani went through their 2nd fight.
9:23 - R realized half way that he's supposed to commentate Cabbage match, not talking to guests.
9:50 - ASW's Mori is in LA. (presumably with Kana Ueda)
9:51 - Cabbage survived first pool.
9:57 - Eita and Xian survived first pool.
10:01 - KSK on the mic. He said GODSGARDEN channel is "currently" free. It's too late, man. Damage is done. You locked people out from the beginning, some people already paid you, and now you say it's free for now? And we know you'll charge people for a crappy "show" again soon. (Like charging people to listen to your karaoke session you did.)
10:11 - Note that KSK doesn't actively play SF4 so don't expect any real commentating.
10:14 - 70,900u
10:14 - Nagisa playing something
10:29 - ChocoBlanka survived first pool
10:33 - Hameko (writer) on the mic. He's interviewing Gen, 13 year old Japanese Tekken player sent by Twitch (coming with his father).
10:54 - Kazunoko won first fight
11:17 - No commentator on Nico at the moment because R goes to play. No complaint from us.
11:34 - Harada x Nagisa
11:42 - Nuki survived first pool. Kokujin & Nuki on Nico.
11:58 - Sentosu survived first pool.
12:04 - R is back on the mic, was eliminated in first pool.
12:09 - Kazunoko survived first pool. He said Alex Myer (Sakura player) almost got him in the Winners final.
12:21 - 99300u
12:24 - Cabbage on Nico.
12:33 - Momo Choco on Nico.
12:44 - Sentosu (MC, Poison player) and AO (Tekken player) on Nico.
12:52 - 111,800c
13:07 - Sako survived first pool.
13:17 - Mizoteru lost his passport and iPhone last night....
13:21 - First pic of Nyanshi
13:21 - Nagisa & Itabashi Zangief
13:25 - Momochi survived first pool.
13:33 - Koji KOG survived first pool.
13:43 - Fuudo survived first pool.
13:51 - R wants GamerBee match to end quick so he can eat burger. Yes, the pig is eating again. They even show him eating at the desk beside the chewing sound. Shame.
13:56 - Japanese Smash Bros. players on Nico.
14:01 - Note that Niconico does not focus on streaming every matches. They sometimes cut it to show the guests.
14:04 - KSK in Losers now.
14:08 - Up until now, R didn't really provide a professional commentary.
14:15 - Nyanshi is playing and R is still talking to Smash players. This's a nightmare.
14:20 - We reached our limit. Closing Niconico and watch official stream instead (just like what we did last year). 実況・解説 しっかりしろ.
14:28 - James Chen doesn't realize that KSK looks so happy after a win because KSK thinks he's an underdog.
14:28 - KSK survived first pool in Losers
15:18 - Itabashi Zangief survived first pool.
15:25 - ASW's Mori arrived at venue.
16:26 - Mizoteru survived first pool.
17:07 - It's a break, watch Nico in case there's Umehara interview. Square Enix producer Takamasa Shiba on Nico... for no reason. He's a fan and friend of Umehara though. He even calls Umehara "Ume-chan." Hey, how about Dissidia sequel with Umehara as battle planner?
17:09 - Mago survived first pool.
17:21 - Bon-chan survived first pool.
17:28 - Clearly Nico stream is smoother. Only we have to deal with the idiots on the mic.
17:36 - Kana Ueda arrived at the venue!
17:45 - Why are R and Shiba talking about BUKKAKE? WTF.
17:59 - Kokujin survived first pool.
18:02 - Now R is inviting Shiba to his PPV show. Great. 格げー関係ないなら消えろ....
18:05 - Nico basically put random people on stream and expect things to happen. No script, no time limit. 台本ないのはまずい
18:13 - Shiba just called Square Enix "Kuso-Enix." That's brave.
18:19 - Infiltration put in Losers by Velociraptor
18:22 - It's supposed to be a closing statement, why is Shiba is still talking?
18:28 - Shiba finally gone. Now only R is gone too.
18:30 - Umehara vs. F Champ, where's the stream!
18:34 - Umehara put in Losers by F.Champ. So it's E Ryu vs. Dhalsim, and Umehara didn't counterpick with Yun? Our worst nightmare.
18:41 - Official stream is showing trailer of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
18:44 - Skisonic & Ultra Davis on the mic.
18:50 - While KOG is playing, Nico has Harada and Tekken players talking without the match showed. gg
18:58 - Skisonic will do 15% better if he doesn't randomly raise his voice.
19:06 - Skisonic needs to realize that the hype comes from the match, not the tone of his voice or the way he talks.
19:08 - Ski and Ultra David got trolled by fake result, saying Umehara is out of tournament.
19:25 - Sentosu put in Losers by Taiga.
19:32 - Sako beat Laugh.
19:34 - Nagisa vs. Ono
19:35 - R begins actual commentating. Thank God.
19:38 - Haitani put Eita in Losers.
19:39 - Cabbage and Tokido put in Losers by Snake Eyes.
19:51 - Despite saying he's a fan, Ski still doesn't realize that Sakonoko is just online ID, not his alias. Sakonoko now means Sako's daughter.....
19:55 - Yossan eliminated Xiaohai
19:58 - Fuudo the mic. Good.
20:01 - Umehara elimitaed by John Choi.
23:28 - Umehara vs. Nagisa vs. Ono

Since Umehara is out of the tournament, we end our record here as usual.

Watch ChocoBlanka sing anime song

Some of you probably already know that ChocoBlanka is a band vocalist, but probably don't know how good she is.

This footage is from iPhone streaming yesterday when she went to karaoke with R (MC, commentator, Guy player) and Itabashi Zangief.

The song is Kouga Ninpou Chou (by Onmyouza) from Basilisk anime. She chose this song because it has the word "Ninpou" (ninja arts) which reminded her of Momochi (who is a descendant of a ninja, although Iga clan, not Kouga clan).

(It seems like she quit the band when she moved to Tokyo with Momochi in May.)

Umehara enters TOPANGA Banzuke

It's reported that Daigo Umehara has entered TOPANGA Banzuke tournament held at Taito Station Wakou (Saitama Prefecture) today. He won all two matches in his first day.

Results

• ChocoBlanka 1-1
• Fuudo 1-1
• Mago 2-0
• Mahou Shoujo Zangi-tan 1-1
• Momochi 2-0 (using Ken today)
• Nemo 2-0
• Umehara 2-0

Top 8 again
In 2011, Daigo Umehara became the only player in history to enter Evolution top 8 Street Fighter IV tournament 3 consecutive years.

In 2012, today, Umehara nailed it by becoming the only player in history to enter Evolution top 8 Street Fighter IV tournament 4 consecutive years.

Versus GamerBee
The match Daigo Umehara vs. GamerBee was so amazing "Daigo" became a worldwide trend on Twitter.

Commentators
Making Zhi a commentator is a serious mistake. Not only the guy can't draw a line between kids in the chat and a decent commentator, he took advantge of it (as expected). Humming a song or talking off-topic on the stream of biggest FG tournament is bad enough. There was something that needs to be addressed.

He said something like "I wonder if I lost a passport in Japan, will there be some help like the case of Mago?" He talked like Japanese players are not generous like the American.

The truth behind this is he was the one who used to ask the Japanese FGC to let him stay in their house at least 2 occasions for free or minimum cost. Apparently not many people wanted to get involved.

FYI, KSK used to let backpacking American player SubZero sleep/stay at his game center long time ago. And Sako also let GamerBee stay at his house this year.

This's the same case with a certain foreign player living in Japan who is being given cold shoulder. Because the guy is a real troll trolling both in and outside the game.

Back to the topic, it was also Zhi last year at Evo 2011 who forced Momochi and ChocoBlanka to kiss, and forced Gama-san to shout Denpa Jikkyou meme, just for entertaining.

When Zhi was paired with skisonic today, it was a torture. Because they're good at going off-topic.

On the bright side, we have Juice Box and Magus. These two are good at play-by-play as we already mentioned. Magus improved a lot since NorCal 2 years ago. He has a weak point in JFGC stuff, but he was really smooth in everything else.

SF3 3rd Strike qualifier
- Haitani won. He chose Momochi and Daigo Umehara as his teammates for Tougeki finals.
- Momochi later revealed that Haitani talked to him and decided about SF3 and SF4 team for Tougeki 2012. They still wanted one member. It's for fun so they don't want to drag SF3 players with them. They considered SF4 players instead. They approached Umehara after TOPANGA Charity Cup 2012 but they were drunk at the time so it was not really confirmed. (Haitani and Momochi live in south west, but Umehara live in Tokyo. It's hard to go to a local qualifier together.)
- Famitsu reported that Haitani talked to Umehara again before the finals, Umehara said "If you won, then [teaming up] is okay." He later laughed because Haitani actually won it.

Exhibition matches
- Ten players are paired randomly by drawing. (pic)
- Since there're 5 pairs, one team will have to play 3 times.
- There was no stream but Choco Blanka reported the results realtime.

Bathroom Counter new low #2

This's why fighting game community is a joke.

I don't follow Bathroom Counter but recently I saw bad things in all the 3-4 links people gave me.

Bathroom Counter's Zhi may know Japanese language but his interpretation is really bad. He's trying too hard to entertain by adding stuff to the point that he's lying. But what makes me write this is the inappropriate questions in MomoChoco interview.

"Are you staying together?"
"What does she do when you're playing?"
"Do you think your child will become stronger than Daigo?" (At this point, Momochi SAID "What kind of questions is this?")
"When will you marry?"

At the end, he asked them to kiss in front of the camera. Momochi had to say "Aho ka?" (Are you idiot?) repeatedly. Zhi ended the interview by saying out loud "Tsumannai" (Boring).

You want more?

In Kindevu interview
"Is [KayoPolice] your girlfriend?"
"Have you ever confessed [to Kayo]?"
"How do I impress [Kayo]?"
"Do you pick up girls from game centers?"
"A high school girl [isn't your type]?" (Kindevu said "These questions......")

He also forced Gama no Abura (30+ years old, married) to do the Denpa Jikkyou after his interview.

It's not necessary, but I'll give a constructive criticism.
- Being raw is not equal to being classless.
- Being funny is not equal to being childish.
- Quality over quantity. There's nothing wrong with a plain interview. No need to add things to make it look more interesting.

MAG-Net ep. 6: Street Fighter

If you're a fan, you already saw this. And since we never had one, this's a summary of the 6th episode of MAG-Net show on NHK channel, May 9, 2010. There're clips with English subtitle on YouTube, but the video was from a camera and the subtitle isn't 100% accurate/complete. The screenshots in this post came from an HD version in my PC.

MAG-Net (ＭＡＧ・ネット) is a documentary TV program focused on Manga, Anime, Game related subcultures. Each episode has a different topic. Up until now, the topics range from mainstream works like Love Plus, Gundam UC, Bakemonogatari, Idolm@ster to stuff like Hatsune Miku, Touhou Project, and bishoujo games. The show is entertaining yet very educative.

The episode we're talking about is dedicated to Street Fighter, but Daigo Umehara plays a big part in it.

1. Introduction to Street Fighter
- They briefly show players who competed in SF4, including Tokido, RF, ItaZan, and Ricky Ortiz.
- They explain about command inputs and health bar.
- They introduce Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Gouki, Rufus.

2. MAG-NETalk
- Ayana Tsubaki (a model who's into fighting games),  editor-in-chief of Arcadia magazine Sawatari, an assistant teacher from an international university come to discuss about their fighting game experiences.
- Ayana (Ryu) had a SF4 match with Sawatari (Ken). She shows some FADC skill and won.

3. The scenes
- They show Capcom's official SF4 National Tournament on April 4 (2010) at Akihabara, Tokyo.
- They introduce 7 star players in the tournament: RF (Sagat), Tokido (Gouki), Momochi (Gouki), Mago (Sagat), Iyo (Dhalsim), Kindevu (Rufus), and Umehara (Ryu). This leads to the introduction to Daigo Umehara, a world class player.
- They show the 2004's dramatic comeback which they call "奇跡の逆転劇" (Kiseki no Gyakuten Geki) or The Miraculous Reversal Play, and explain it in slow motion.
- They had an interview about it with Umehara. He said it was something he is able to do, but the important part was the sound.
- They interviewed a foreign player named Nicholas about Umehara.
- They show and talk about Umehara's trophies.
- They talk about his training. Umehara says he practices everyday, 363 days a year to be exact.
- They show Tokido and Mago at a game center in Yokohama.
- They show and interview the surrounding spectators.
- They interview Tokido and Mago about the National Tournament.

4. The production
-  They introduce Yoshinori Ono, the series producer. He talks about the creation of SF4: moving from 2D to 3D and the storyboards.

5. Daigo Umehara's Street Fighter Courses
- Lesson 1: Stick Gripping
He teaches the way he holds the stick called "ウメハラ持ち" (Umehara Mochi)* or Umehara Grip. (Beast Note: This term has been around for years before the show.) It's similar to wine glass grip, but the palm is around the ball, instead of just fingers. He explains that this way gives more precision and proves it by showing input display of Shinku Hadoken.

6. MAG-NETalk (Part 2)
- They talk about character diversity.

7. The production (Part 2)
- Ono reveals character design candidates. Juri originally looks innocent.

8. Daigo Umehara's Street Fighter Courses (Part 2)
- Lesson 2: Practicing method of a combo
He teaches Shoryuken > FADC > Metsu Hadoken combo by separating 3 steps into 2 parts.

9. The SF4 National Tournament
- They explain the format (3 on 3) and the brackets.
- Umehara team has Bon-chan (Sagat).
- Tokido and Mago is in the same team.
- Okozukai 2000 yen has Kindevu, Momochi, RF.
- Choco is seen in the crowd.
- Umehara lost to MDR (Rufus) and his team lost to Team Kaiser Phoenix.
- In the interview:
Umehara: "I want to play a little more."
Bon-chan: (to Umehara) "Sorry. Really sorry."
Umehara: "It can't be helped."
MDR: "I'm finally here, I defeated God, now I'm going to defeat everyone."
- Team Kaiser Phoenix defeated Tokido team.
- Momochi defeated MDR. Okozukai 2000 yen defeated Kaiser Phoenix to win the tournament. They received Golden Boxing Gloves trophy. (Beast Note: Ono then announced SSF4AE on the stage.)

10. MAG-NETalk (Part 3)
- They discuss about the future of fighting games, about being the best in Japan and then the best in the world.

11. Ending
- "This Spring, Umehara-san is sponsored by an American game peripherals manufacturer. And go overseas as a pro gamer."
